I'm feeling the challenges and the growing pains this week. I've had to release, reassess, make modifications and tweak a few things. It's apparent that some of the things I'm doing aren't giving me the results I'm looking for so it's time to make some adjustments. As with anything in life, if what we are doing isn't working then we need to change things up!
Do you ever feel as though you are being tested? That the universe is asking you; "How badly do you want this?" We are met with roadblocks, resistance and that four letter word; FEAR. Self doubt creeps in and pretty soon the excitement of our inspired vision starts to wane and the negative self talk gets louder. Inevitably, we may find ourselves trying to rationalize a way to go back to the perceived comforts of the old way of being and doing.
And yet, despite it all something inside of us whispers, "stay the course". Endure. Persevere.
Someone really wise recently asked me to imagine my life a year from now. What would it look like if I tossed in the towel? The thought of that makes me cringe inside. So yes, whatever it is you find yourself in the midst of; a new business venture, career change, relationship change, lifestyle change - it's going to be hard some days and those self-defeating thoughts will creep in. I get it. I'm living it.
And you know what? It's all going to be worth it in the end.
How sweet will our success be, despite all the perceived obstacles when we reach where we are going? When we are willing to push through all of the challenges, the trials and the tribulations despite how uncomfortable certain things may feel. That my friends, is when we know that we are indeed connected to a vision for ourselves that is in total alignment of what we value most. Talk about deep fulfillment!
We can find as many reasons not to do something as we can find reason to do something. The more stumbling blocks we face, the more creative we become in finding a way around, it's a great recipe for clarity, problem solving skills and self-reliance.
How does that saying go? A smooth sea never made for a skillful sailor.
I'm pretty much living in a constant state of butterflies because I feel like I just keep pushing my own personal boundaries so far beyond of what I ever thought I would be capable of. I feel more alive as a result of this than I have in a long time, even so I'm having to navigate my way through some rough waters.
Know this, if you are pursuing some cause, mission or dream, that you will challenged. It won't be "easy", but if it's worth it, something inside of you won't let you give up. That's how you know that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
Here are three things I do when I'm feeling burdened and fearful;
- Find a phrase, saying or mantra that connects with you and brings you back to center. Here's mine (you can use it if you like it); "Hold the vision, trust the process". This mantra goes with me everywhere, meetings, workshops and even when I'm taking a yoga class!
- Gratitude. There is always the flip side to any event, nothing is ever "all bad". Recognise and be grateful for everything that is going well or according to plan. The perfect people and things that "show up" seemingly like magic to help you. There is an energy that comes from being grateful that just keeps spreading. I keep a journal that is dedicated to everything I am grateful for.
- Trust. So far life has shown me that no matter what curve balls have come my way, I am still here and I am just fine. Whatever your spiritual belief is, mine is that life, God, universe or source won't give you anything you can't handle. Life is full of synchronous moments. It's just your job to look and trust everything is unfolding just as it's meant to. I remind myself by writing messages on my mirror with lip liner. Every time I go into my bathroom this is what I see; "I trust life".
So today, I have the feeling I wrote this more me than for you, if you did get something out of this then I'd love to hear from you. XO
